Ryan Edge joined SEPA’s research team in January, 2014. He holds a B.I.S. from Western Kentucky University and a Master of Public Administration with an Energy Policy concentration from Portland State University. He completed his graduate capstone while working closely with Portland General Electric researching and developing policy recommendations regarding the role of smart inverters in the grid integration of distributed solar resources. Also during this time, Ryan co-authored a white paper exploring the potential service restoration capabilities of a self-healing utility microgrid that combined networked distribution feeders, battery energy storage and distributed generation. Ryan came from a background in coal mining services and regulatory compliance before pursuing his passion for renewable energy and smart grid.
