"Utility-Scale Photovoltaic Design and Construction Optimization"

 Thursday July 22, 2010
11 am Pacific; 2 pm Eastern. One hour duration

The fastest growing sector of the U.S. solar market is utility scale photovoltaic projects. To date, the largest projects have been built in Europe where developers have enjoyed lucrative feed in tariffs and a relatively low cost of labor. However, similarly sized U.S. projects don't enjoy these benefits - margins are tight and labor is a premium. Equipment costs have rapidly decreased, which makes project execution an important place for cost reductions and efficiency gains. This webinar will examine optimizations that project developers, component suppliers, EPCs and utilities themselves should consider when aiming to develop effective and predictable project cycles and utility-scale PV solutions.

Speaker: Stephen Smith, Solvida Energy
Cost: Free to SEPA Members and Media (subject to verification); $125 Non-members
Target Audience:  Power Supply & Planning, Renewable Project Manager

"Photovoltaics and Roofs: Legal, Financial, and Design Issues (That You Shouldn't Overlook)"

 Thursday August 26, 2010
11 am Pacific; 2 pm Eastern. One hour duration

Roofs perform an obvious function in the PV industry - supporting the equipment.  But they are also a key intersection of long-term legal, financial and design issues that can impact project economics, permitting, safety and other critical aspects if not addressed properly.  Examples include leasing structures and payments, fire codes and setbacks, liability and legal issues, and long-term integrity of the building canopy.  This webinar will discuss key issues of commercial rooftop PV installations from an industrial building owner with almost 500 million square feet of space around the world and a utility who is utilizing that space for their project development.  Find out what they've learned (and overlooked) in the process of their project developments.

Speakers: Andrew Torbin, ProLogis and Rudy Perez, Southern California Edison
Cost:Free to SEPA Members and Media (subject to verification); $125 Non-members
Target Audience:  Distribution Engineering, Power Supply and Planning, Renewable Project Manager
