Xcel Energy Seeking to Triple the Amount of Large-Scale Solar and Wind Energy
Xcel Energy is proposing to triple the amount of large-scale solar power and add up to 450 MW of wind. The proposal was filed with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, and was motivated by competitive bidding by developers. The utility proposes 170 MW of utility-scale solar, which will be separate from Xcel's 42.5 MW of small-scale solar. The utility would also like to add 450 MW of wind. According to Xcel Energy, this was the first time the utility had seen solar projects that are cost-competitive with natural gas-generated power. State regulators are expected to approve or modify the plans by December 9th.
